Concert: University of District of Columbia Small Jazz Ensemble

JazzOn Oct. 29 at 6:30 p.m., enjoy a lovely evening of jazz music performed by the University of the District of Columbia's Small Jazz Ensemble in the Great Hall at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library. 

This evening of music will kick off the University of the District of Columbia’s JAZZAlive (Concerts in the Community) under the direction of Allyn Johnson. The evening will feature performances by the University’s resident ensemble, the UDC JAZZtet with D.C. favorites Allyn Johnson, Steve Novosel, Lyle Link, Douglas Pierce, Reginald Cyntje, Howard “Kingfish” Franklin and, as a special treat, vocalist Sandra Y Johnson.

JAZZAlive at the University of the District of Columbia unites an outstanding jazz studies program, city-wide and regional events that culminate each year with the Calvin Jones BIG BAND Jazz Festival, research and outreach programs, and the internationally acclaimed Felix E. Grant Jazz Archives. The JAZZAlive events series produces diverse jazz-related events year-round, including concerts by local and national artists, panel discussions and forums, jazz film screenings and more.

The Jazz Studies Program at the University of the District of Columbia has produced premier collegiate jazz ensembles that are recognized throughout the Washington, D.C. community.
