Movie Screening of Brooklyn Castle

Brooklyn CastleCome to a FREE screening of the film Brooklyn Castle (PG) at the Anacostia Neighborhood Library!  We’ll be showing it on Saturday, Oct. 20 at 3 p.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 23 at 6 p.m.  Recommended for children and adults with an interest in chess, but all viewers will find this remarkable story compelling.

Brooklyn Castle tells the stories of five members of the chess team at a below-the-poverty-line inner city junior high school that has won more national championships than any other in the country.  And while repeatedly winning is exhilarating, the team’s victories go beyond a room full of trophies —through chess they learn patience and long-term planning, and the importance of analyzing the wrong or right decision they make after the game.

Watch these young people as they become transcendent, turning themselves into kings and queens through the world’s most difficult game.
