Reading Lolita in Tehran

Cover image for Azar Nafisi's memoir, Reading Lolita in TehranBeginning Oct. 15 until Nov. 15, the Mt. Pleasant Library Book Club is joining DC Reads and picking up Reading Lolita in Tehran, a memoir about the author’s experience in Tehran as a university literature professor who witnesses the turbulent political and social changes in Iran during the turbulent years of the Iran-Iraq War in the 80s and the increasingly restrictive rule of law in the 90s. The events of these times are interlaced with stories of the female students she recruited for an informal book club that met every Thursday morning in her home to discuss great -- and banned -- works of Western literature.

Join us Nov. 14 at 7 p.m. in the meeting room on the main level of our branch for a discussion with the Mt. Pleasant Library Book Club!
