We, The Kids

As a reminder that civic responsibility can begin at any age, the Anacostia Neighborhood library was proud to be a polling site for the 2012 Children's Election, open to citizens 17 and under! The children were given ballots to let their voices be heard on the following categories:
President: Barack Obama vs. Mitt Romney
Political party: Republican vs. Democrat
Color: Red vs. Blue
Animal: Donkey vs. Elephant
The “polls” were open from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. and the results were:
| Donkey: 75.4 percent | Elephant: 21.5 percent |
| Red: 17 percent | Blue: 80 percent |
| Republican: 12 percent | Democrat: 83 percent |
And ... (drumroll please ...)
With an unprecedented 100 PERCENT of the vote, President Barack Obama was re-elected to a second term. Many thanks to the 65 children who exercised their right to vote, and congratulations to all the winners!
Fun Fact: Established in 1940, the Scholastic Student Vote has correctly predicted every single presidential election since 1960!
