Living and Learning: A Historical Perspective on the District and Public Higher Education

Since 1851 : 160 years of scholarship and achievement in the nation's capital : University of the District of Columbia book Drs. Majorie Lightman and William Zeisel will host a multimedia presentation and discussion of the history of the higher education in the District of Columbia.

Based on their book, "Since 1851: 160 Years of Scholarship and Achievement n the Nation’s Capital," the authors will address the historically important and frequently unexamined questions of the role Congress has played in District affairs since before the Civil War, the development of the public school system, the evolution of teachers colleges and their role in District education, the effects of segregation and desegregation and the formation of the University of the District of Columbia in the 1970s.
