Book Group: Fiction and Films

This month, the Fiction Lover's Book Club read Heading Out to Wonderful, by Robert Goolrick, for discussion at our December meeting. Penned by the author of A Reliable Wife, a reader's favorite, this novel tells the story of two outsiders in the deceptively placid town of Brownsburg, Virginia located in a valley in the shadow of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains.
The plot revolves around secrets, lust, and infidelity. Set in the late 1940s, the story also speaks to small town American life and aspirations after the war, as the rest of the country is on the threshhold of the modern.
