Ellis Island

Gateway to America
On Jan. 1, 1892, Ellis Island opened as an immigration station in New York harbor. Approximately 12 million immigrants passed through Ellis Island between 1892 and 1954. In 1965, Ellis Island, together with the Statue of Liberty, became part of the National Park System.
