January’s meeting was a huge success, with over 14 in attendance.
February’s selection is Laika, by Nick Abadzis. The book won an Eisner award in 2008.
Laika is a graphic novel by Nick Abadzis that gives a fictionalized account of the life of the first living creature launched in orbital spaceflight. In the story, we watch the ambitious Sergey Korolyov, chief engineer responsible for the launching and construction of Sputnik 2; to that of Yelena Dubrovsky, official trainer of the space-bound dogs; to that of Oleg Gazenko, scientist; and finally from the viewpoint of Laika herself, who had lived as a stray on the streets of Moscow.
The Tween Book Club meets the last Wednesday of every month at 4 p.m. in the Southeast Library meeting room. Book club books are on display and available for check out. See a children's staff member for more details.
