History of Knitting
In honor of National Craft Month, we will be joined by Deb Fuller for a lecture about the history of knitting.
Deb Fuller is a costume historian who can honestly say that she has "over 2000 years of clothing in her closet." She studied costume history under Paul Reinhardt at James Madison University and is currently pursuing a masters of museum studies at the University of Leicester. Her areas of research include the history of knitting, hand-knit socks and stockings -- especially from the 18th and 19th centuries -- historical sheep breeds and textile production.
She also consults for historic houses and museums in the D.C. metro area, where she presents living history demonstrations on knitting, spinning and all things fiber and repairs historic spinning wheels and equipment.
