If you were a child of the 70's and 80's like me, you may have grown up with Free to Be... You and Me, the book and music album that Marlo Thomas produced to help families think about how to raise children free of gender stereotypes. The stories and songs are funny, thought-provoking, and touching. If you have never listened to the album, please do.
New to our collection is When We Were Free to Be, a look back the making of the original and the difference it made. During Women's History Month, I am glad to see this on the new books shelf, and I am glad to know that the original work still endures. It certainly influenced the way that I think about gender equality. It also introduced me to a whole group of fabulous women from the project including Thomas, Diana Ross, Shirley Jones, Judy Blume, Roberta Flack and Diana Sands.
