Graphic Memoir Discussion Group
Within the increasingly popular graphic novel genre, there is a fascinating subgroup of author-illustrators writing graphic memoirs and history. Whether exploring their own personal experiences or documenting the history of the Vietnam War and the civil rights movement, this genre has proved to be an exciting kind of storytelling.
Come explore this genre in a new after-work book club. Every month, we will engage a new title, making our way through some of the now "classic" works like Fun Home, Persepolis, and the work of Harvey Pekar as well as books by emerging and younger authors.
Our next title will be Fun Home by Alison Bechdel which tells the story of Bechdel's experience of coming out as a lesbian as well as her own father's complicated sexuality. Bechdel's memoir was a major breakthrough for graphic novelists and is worth reading or rereading!

Note: In an effort to connect with our neighbors at the library, we will hold this discussion at Chinatown Coffee at 5th and H NW.
