'Gotham Central' by Ed Brubaker and Greg Rucka

Cover image of Gotham CentralBeing a cop is a difficult job no matter what city you work in, but what if you were a cop in Gotham City? That’s the premise of Gotham Central, written by Ed Brubaker and Greg Rucka, art by Michael Lark.

This graphic novel series reads like Homicide: Life on the Streets meshed with Batman. The series follows the cops in the Major Crimes Unit (MCU) in Gotham City as they deal with regular crimes like missing persons and murders as well as Batman and the super villains his presence brings to town.

The first volume, In the Line of Duty, introduces the readers to the detectives of the MCU while they are reeling from losing one of their own to an unexpected villain. Wanting the satisfaction of bringing the killer to justice themselves, the detectives find themselves racing against the clock to solve the crime; they know as soon as the sun sets they’ll lose the case to Batman.
