New Book by Local Poet Dan Vera

Speaking Wiri WiriDan Vera is a D.C.-based poet who has made many contributions to the literary landscape of Washington, not least of which is the fabulous DC Writers' Homes website, which maps the houses where writers lived and worked right here in DC.

Now Vera has published his second volume of poetry, Speaking Wiri Wiri. Vera's poems are witty and funny, thoughtful and poignant, definitely worth the read. A good place to start in the collection might be "The Cuban Friendship Urn," which contemplates this strange D.C. statue.

On May 18, Vera will read with inaugural poet Richard Blanco at the Writer's Center. Come to the library and get familiar with his work before hearing him read.
