A Groundbreaking Read with the History/Biography Book Club

Monday, June 24, 2013 - 7 p.m.

The History/Biography Book Club will read The Rape of Europa: The Fate of Europe's Treasures in the Third Reich and the Second World War by Lynn H. Nicholas.

As the Nazis moved across Europe, they confiscated precious art from individuals and institutions. In an attempt to thwart these actions, Curators, Art Historians and many others worked to preserve and protect this artwork, often stashing them in basements, mines and quarries. After the war ended, the Allies' "Monument men" took on the nightmare of recovering these masterpieces and returning them to their rightful owners.
