Children's Day/Book Day is nationally recognized by the American Library Association, and is a celebration of cultural diversity and literacy.
At the Petworth Library, we enjoyed the energetic performance of Maru Montero, a dance troupe that performed Mexican and Latin American folk dances.
Children were happy to be able to join in the fun.
We also had bilingual story times. Children enjoyed songs, stories, flannel boards, folk tales, finger plays and rhymes in English and Spanish.
We read Book Fiesta by Pat Mora, who initiated Children's Day/Book Day. Ms. Mora wrote a special message inside the book:
"To Petworth Library readers, enjoy many books and celebrate Book Joy!"
After each event, children were able to choose a book to keep.
We enjoyed celebrating the diversity of our community!
