Is your child learning to read? Through the DC Public Library, you can access multiple databases filled with video story books and ebooks that the children in your life will love to explore. If you know a child who's struggling with reading or one who is a visual learner, they will all find something to enjoy watching and reading along with in our Book Flix database.
If you are a preschool or elementary school educator, check out the lesson plans, too! Ideas for classroom activities and units are based on the themes and books - some titles are also available in Spanish.
To get started, choose a subject (for example, families and community, or animals and nature) and then your child can read a fictional video storybook paired with a non-fiction ebook about the topic. The words on the page will be highlighted as the narrator reads them, so children can listen and follow along. This is a great way to start learning the difference between stories and informational books.
