Author Natalie Lorenzi visits Georgetown Library
Georgetown Library got a taste of Japanese Culture on May 22. Natalie Lorenzi, author of Flying The Dragon, visited to answer questions about her book, and make origami kites with participants. Lorenzi talked about how her experiences living and teaching in Italy and Japan influenced her book.
Participants also enjoyed “tamago,” a traditional egg dish used in Japanese bento boxes or lunch boxes, which were mentioned in the book. They tried to eat these with chopsticks. Some labored a bit longer than others with the chopsticks, becoming so fascinated, they almost missed the craft!
At the end, several participants checked out copies of the Lorenzi’s book from our kite display. Hopefully, they went home with more than just a book, but also a greater understanding of Japanese culture.
