DC By the Book steps into the Civil War era through the novel The Impeachment of Abraham Lincoln by Stephen L. Carter. Reading excerpts from the book, authors C.R. Gibbs, Steve Dryden, and culinary historian Michael Twitty will discuss the African American community in post-Civil War Washington. Led by moderator Michon Boston, panelists will discuss the changing dynamics of race, class, gender, and education.
