School's Out! Now is the time to stop by the library and sign up for Summer Reading! This is the first year that Summer Reading is for all ages:
- Read With Me for birth to 5: Children can win a sippy cup or Chipotle coupon with four completed activities; eight completed activities gets them a book and a raffle ticket for a beginning library or a family membership at the new Children's Museum.
- Dig Into Reading for 6- to 12-year-olds: Children can win a Chipotle coupon for four hours of reading; with eight hours, they get a book and enter a raffle for Nationals tickets or an e-reader. If they want to keep reading, they can become a super spelunker and enter a raffle to have lunch with six authors.
- Beneath the Surface for 12- to 19-year-olds: Teens can get a Chipotle coupon and enter a raffle for a chance to win Beats headphones or Nationals tickets for reading six books. They can then write a book review for a chance to win a laptop.
- Groundbreaking Reads is for adults. Adults can write book reviews (first 100 get tote bags) to enter a raffle for an e-reader.
We are also encouraging any rising fifth and sixth graders to participate in the Library of Congress "Book That Shaped Me" writing contest, which calls for a one-page essay on a book that had an impact. Winners are honored at the National Book Festival.
We will also have special programs over the summer. First up are the Pacific Rhythms Dancers this Friday, June 28 at 1 p.m. Check back for future summer events.
