Scholar Syed Akbar Hyder offers a brief history of this form and close, thoughtful readings of work by two Urdu masters -- Mir Taqi Mir (1723-1810) and Mirza Ghalib (1797-1869). Following the lecture, Indo-Canadian ghazal singer Kiran Ahluwalia and her accompanist Rez Abbasi will perform.Photo of Kiran Ahluwalia
