Books have the power to shape us by changing the way we think and feel. Think about a book that made a difference in your life. Did it change the way you see yourself? Your family? A classmate? The world?
The Book that Shaped Me Writing Contest, sponsored by the Library of Congress, challenges rising fifth- and sixth-graders to write a one-page essay about how the book had an impact on their life. Last year, a Woodridge Library patron wrote: "To me a good book is like bacon, the thicker the better." This year, this quote is featured on the contest's promotional bookmarks!
All essays are due to Woodridge Library by Monday, Aug. 12.
The entry form and more details can be found here at the Library of Congress website.
