Summer Reading was a blast this year at Mount Pleasant! More than 540 children ages 0-12 logged their reading hours at the library and we are so proud of each and every one of them. We want to thank all of the children who participated this summer and send big congratulations to Ian, our raffle winner of a big bundle of books for the “Read With Me” program for children ages 0-5!
Some of Ian’s favorite reading companions are his mom, dad and nana. They all love reading books together, especially Pete the Cat by Eric Litwin, and Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? by Bill Martin Jr. and Eric Carle snuggled up on the couch at home.
Ian had a great time completing his eight activities on the Summer Reading game board. Some of his favorite activities were reading before bed, practicing counting to ten, attending library programs, and singing songs. These are all great activities to do with young children as they grow to develop their early literacy skills and move into reading readiness.
Singing, talking, and reading (S.T.A.R) with your child now can help them later in school. It is never too early to give your kids a smart start!
On top of winning his big bundle of books, Ian and his family will now be entered into a system-wide raffle for a year's membership to the National Children's Museum at National Harbor. Ian, our fingers are crossed for you!
Congratulations Ian and we look forward to watching your literacy skills grow!
