This summer, more than 540 children participated in the Summer Reading Program at the Mount Pleasant Library! We are so proud of all of our wonderful readers and all of the great work they have accomplished this summer.
Throughout the summer, our school-age readers read for at least eight hours and earned some fantastic prizes along the way which included a brand new book! Among our many super readers that completed the program, there were a few lucky winners of our raffle prizes. Several were the winners of a pair of tickets to a Nationals baseball game and one winner walked away with a Kindle Fire!
Leena, 10, is the winner of Mt. Pleasant’s “Dig Into Reading” Kindle Fire raffle. Leena loves visiting the Mt. Pleasant Library with her family and is an avid reader. She is really excited about her new Kindle Fire and plans on using it a lot to download and read more of her favorite books via the DC Public Library downloads page.
Some of Leena’s favorite books this summer include the Judy Moody series by Megan McDonald, the Diary of a Wimpy Kid series by Jeff Kinney, and the Junie B. Jones series by Barbara Park. To win the Kindle Fire, Leena had to read for a minimum of eight hours, which she quickly accomplished in two days! When Leena is not reading, she enjoys playing volleyball, four-square, listening to music and studying her favorite school subject -- math.
With her new Kindle Fire, Leena also looks forward to downloading her favorite songs from Freegal, using the library’s free online homework help tools for school work, and accessing library databases to complete all of her projects this school year. Leena also says that she might even share her Kindle Fire with her younger brothers so they can watch BookFlix and play in the TumbleBooks library through the DC Public Library website -- but only if they are nice to her!
She thinks that this is going to be a great school year with the help of her Kindle Fire!
