Sept. 22-28 is Banned Books Week
Published on Thursday, September 26, 2013 - 12:17pm
Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell
- A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
- Song of Solomon by Toni Morrison
What do these books have in common? They've all been banned or challenged at some time. And there are countless others like them, which people have tried to keep you from reading. Your library believes in your right to read what you like, and we like to remind you this time each year that censorship of books just isn't a good idea. Banned Books Week seeks to illustrate that by showing you some of the wonderful books which have been banned & challenged.
In honor of Banned Books Week the Chevy Chase Branch Library will have a display of books which have been banned and challenged all week. We will also show the film Fahrenheit 451 on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 1 p.m. The film showing will be followed by a discussion of the film's significance as related to Banned Books Week.
