Celebrate German-American Heritage Month

Not only is Sept. 15 through Oct. 15 Hispanic Heritage Month, it is also German-American Heritage Month!
Whenever you say iceberg, pretzel, angst or gummy bear – you’re using words that actually come from German!
German immigrants have made all sorts of contributions to mainstream American culture – from hamburgers and hotdogs, to kindergarten, Christmas trees and my personal favorite... polka music! Did you know: the library’s local Penn Quarter neighborhood was once home to 4000 German immigrants!*
From medieval sagas and Grimm fairy tales, to modern picture books and novels for all ages, there is a wealth of German literature – in German and in English – right here at the library! Plus, Ms. Annelise in the Children’s Room is happy to speak auf deutsch with you at any time.
See you later at the library! Bis zum nächsten Mal in der Bibliothek!
