'Nairobi Heat' by Mukoma Wa Ngugi

In Nairobi Heat, you follow African-American detective Ishmael from Madison, Wis., to Kenya and back while investigating the murder of a girl left on the doorstep of an African peace activist. The extraordinarily vivid sense of place will make you feel as though you are in Kenya.
As important to the plot as the murder, race relations and points of view between African-Americans and how they perceive white Americans and African-Americans and how they are perceived by black Africans are woven into the political world of non-governmental organizations (NGOs), money, genocide and conscience.
The Cleveland Park Mystery Book Club meets on the first Thursday of the month, 6:30 p.m., at Barnes and Noble, 12th and E streets NW.
The next meeting is Oct. 3.
