Celebrate Robert Louis Stevenson's Birthday!

A Pirate-Themed Sunday with a Movie and Stories

Muppet Treasure IslandWhen you picture a pirate, do you imagine one with a peg leg and a parrot on his shoulder? When you make a treasure map, do you know that "X marks the spot"?

Both of these ideas were created in Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland on Nov. 13, 1850, Stevenson created many popular novels, and his example of pirates in Treasure Island remains in our culture even today.

To celebrate Stevenson's 163rd birthday, Rosedale is doing a pirate-themed day on Sunday, Nov. 17. First, kids can enjoy Muppet Treasure Island (rated PG) at 1:30 p.m. Afterwards, they can listen to a pirate-themed storytime, which will include Mary Quattlebaum's Pirate vs. Pirate, and also take some pirate coloring pages to enjoy at home.
