Joi Mecks Named Interim Chief Librarian

The DC Public Library Board of Trustees has named Joi Mecks Interim Chief Librarian following the retirement of Ginnie Cooper. Ms. Mecks has served on the senior management team as the library's director of communications since 2008 where she was charged with managing and promoting the library's image and brand.
Prior to joining the DC Public Library, Ms. Mecks served as the Director of Marketing Communications for the Chicago Public Schools where she served and advised then-CEO Arne Duncan, currently the U.S. Secretary of Education.
Ms. Mecks has more than 25 years of experience in the communications field. She specializes in strategic communications and has extensive experience in media relations and media training; marketing and branding; community relations; special events; market research; message development; web content development and online promotion. Ms. Mecks has spent most of her career in public relations in the fields of education and health. She led communications efforts for the National Alzheimer's Association and American Heart Association.
