The Art of Romare Bearden and Faith Ringgold for Kids

Sunday, Feb. 9 and Feb. 23, 1-4 p.m.

Shapes and bold color are a hallmark of African American artists, Romare Bearden (1911-1988) and Faith Ringgold (born 1930). Bearden’s collage and Ringgold’s fiber art illustrate many books for youth and adults found in our libraries.

In honor of Black History Month, two Sunday afternoons in February will be devoted to exploring their iconic art. Material will be available for children 12 and younger to recreate, reinterpret or get inspired by the masterworks: The Block by Romare Bearden and Flag Story Quilt by Faith Ringgold. Films featuring both artists will be on view as well as posters and books.
