Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s nonviolent activism played a pivotal role during the Civil Rights Movement, particularly protesting racial discrimination in federal and state law. DC Public Library is continuing that legacy during Black History Month with the “Dream Big Like Me” video contest. Teens all over the DC metro area submitted videos of their original work showing how they will continue Dr. King’s dream of equality for all.
The “Dream Big Like Me” video contest will honor four video contestants, who will receive each receive a Kindle Fire HD tablet. The winning videos will be shown during the “Dream Big Like Me” Open Mic Night, co-sponsored by DC Public Library and Promising Futures, at the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Library on Feb. 26, 5-7 p.m. The winners will be invited to perform their original work during the open mic event. Winning videos will also be available to view on the Youth202 website and DC Public Library website and social media webpages.
