Tribute to Peter O'Toole

Books on Film series spotlights 'Lawrence of Arabia'
The Arabian desert at sunset.

This epic award-winning adventure is inspired by the true exploits of British army officer T.E. Lawrence, and is one of the most influential films of the 20th century. It is based, in part, on numerous biographies and autobiographies, most notably the authorized biography by Jeremy Wilson and Lawrence's own Seven Pillars of Wisdom. These explore the transformation of Lawrence from liaison to participant in the Arab Revolt against Ottoman rule.

The film stars the late great Peter O’Toole, as well as Omar Sharif, Sir Alec Guinness and Anthony Quinn. Directed by Sir David Lean, it was released in 1962. The film will be shown in two parts over two nights as part of two library film series:

  • Part 1— Books on Film series, Monday, March 10
  • Part 2— Popular Movies series, Tuesday, March 11

Showing at 6 p.m. in Room A-5 on both nights.
