African Folktales Shadow Puppet Show

Nelson Mandela's Favorite African Folktales

A preview of the shadow puppet show
This Saturday, Feb. 22 at 11:30 a.m., in celebration of Black History Month, we will be having a dramatic reading of stories from Nelson Mandela's Favorite African Folktales, accompanied by shadow puppets.

The folk stories included in this collection hail from across the continent, presenting the reader a rich tapestry of African culture. Some of the stories are funny, some beautiful but bittersweet, and many speak to truths of human nature we still find relevant to our lives today.

The audiobook version of this book, with its host of renowned narrators (Alan Rickman, Charlize Theron, Scarlett Johansson, Samuel L. Jackson, to name a few), won an Audie award for Best Audio Book in 2010. This collection of folk tales can be counted as yet another wonderful gift the late humanitarian left to our world before leaving it this past December.

This is a program suitable for all ages - bring the whole family! (However, we ask that if you plan on bringing a group of 6+ or more to call the library ahead of time so we can make apt spacial accommodation.) Hope to see you there.
