April 22: Special Needs Trusts
Speakers Yolanda Mazyck, Shared Horizons, Phil Fish, Sandy Spring Bank, and Tanya Harvey, Loeb & Loeb, LLP, will present. Preserving the benefits and any possible assets are a complicated discussion. The governmental benefits are created for survival living only. There are ways to support a person who needs the governmental benefits to be able to have his or her supplemental needs met to increase the quality of life after reaching the age of majority.
May 13: Supported Decision Making, Guardianship and the Other Alternatives
Speakers Tina Campanella and Jonathan Martinis, Quality Trust for Individuals with Disabilities, Inc., will present. Many parents of children with special needs are encouraged to seek legal guardianship for their child as soon as the child attains the age of majority. Parents should know and understand the different alternatives that are available, so their child can exercise their human and civil rights most effectively. The legal options are vast but often expedited for efficiency. This is not the best interest of anyone.
