Summer Reading Kick Off Week
Published on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 - 10:34am
Summer Reading officially starts on June 1. Excited yet? We here at Woodridge Interim Library have quite a summer planned for kids, teens, and adults alike, and we've decided to kick off the season with a week's worth of special programs during the first week of June. When you come to a program, don't forget to sign up for summer reading and get a head start on winning prizes!
Tuesday, June 3
At 10:30 a.m., adults are invited to a Computer Basics & "Learn How To" session. Learn how to download free Music from Freegal and get free popular magazines from Zinio. (This workshop will reprise the following week, at the same time, on June 17.)
Stop Motion Video: Teens will create Vine or Instagram videos on their own mobile devices or a DCPL iPad using weird props and DIY backdrops. By participating in this event, teens can earn the STEM and Get Crafty Badges. Starts at 4 p.m.
Wednesday, June 4
For kids 5 and under we will be having a special STEAM-themed story time during our regularly scheduled story time (at 10:30 a.m.) about the science of colors. Come join us as we read Mouse Paint and Planting a Rainbow, sing songs, then do various experiments with color mixing.
For kids 6 and up, at 4 p.m. we will be making a mysterious substance known as "oobleck" and learning about non-Newtonian fluids.
Saturday, June 7
Come for an afternoon of group discussion, episode viewings, and new manga recommendations at the Anime Club. Earn the Cover to Cover Badge by checking out and reading two manga volumes from a series promoted at the club.
Kick off your summer right - the Woodridge way!
