It Don't Mean A Thing, If It Aint Got That Swing: U Street Memories from Duke Ellington to Marvin Gaye
Please join us for a very special celebration of the U Street Oral History Project at Busboys and Poets on 14th and V St. NW, featuring live music from the Greater U Street Jazz Collective, Greg Gaskins and other special artists. There will also be historical commentary from WPFW radio personality and Jazz historian, Rusty Hassan, as well as Georgetown University African American History Professor, Maurice Jackson. Come and learn about the rich history of U Street from those who remember the glory days of the 1940s, the early days of R &B, the decline in the aftermath of the 1968 riots on through the present. Made possible in part by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, this program will be hosted by Project Director and Special Collections Librarian, Kelly E. Navies.
