"The Photographer: Into War-Torn Afghanistan"

Image of cover artwork for The Photographer graphic novel. The Mt. Pleasant Library’s Book Club selection for April is The Photographer: Into War-torn Afghanistan with Doctors Without Borders, by Emmanuel Guibert. This graphic novel combines photographs taken by Didier Lefèvre, who was hired to accompany and document the work of Médecins sans Frontières (MSF, or Doctors without Borders) during a mission in 1986 into northern Afghanistan, with artwork by Emmanuel Guibert and design by Frédéric Lemercier. This thought-provoking use of a mixture of stunning black-and-white photographs and intimate drawings effectively contrasts the natural beauty of Afghanistan with the human interest stories stemming from the invasion of this country by the Soviet Union.

Join us Wednesday April 14 at 7 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Neighborhood Library for a discussion of this thought-provoking documentary graphic novel.
