Eric Riley Named 2010 “Mover and Shaker"
DC Public Librarian Eric Riley has been named a “Mover and Shaker” by Library Journal magazine. Launched in 2002 to recognize librarians, vendors and others who are shaping the future of libraries, Riley was praised for his work managing the Watha T. Daniel/Shaw Interim Library and for creating exceptional public programs.
“It's such an honor to be recognized by the profession for the diligent work done not only by me, but also by my staff,” said Eric Riley.
The Watha T. Daniel/Shaw Interim Library holds 40 to 50 programs each month. One program partnered the library with students at Seaton Elementary School to create a local history page on Wikipedia for the Shiloh Baptist Church. In addition to teaching them how to research and build a Wikipedia page, the students used the library to hold a Skype teleconference with teachers around the country to talk about their experience on the project. In its 133rd year of publication, Library Journal is the oldest and most respected publication covering the library field. Read the Library Journal’s profile on Riley.
