Noted Authors to Discuss Romania’s Post-Communist Success

In the 20 years since Romanians overthrew dictator Nicolae Ceauşescu’s Communist totalitarianism, Romania has become a thriving democracy and an economic success. What’s the story behind the Romanian miracle?

Former United States ambassador to Romania Jim Rosapepe and his wife, award-winning journalist Sheilah Kast, discuss Romania’s growth based on their book “Dracula is Dead: How Romanians Survived Communism, Ended it, and Emerged Since 1989 as the New Italy” at Cleveland Park Neighborhood Library on Thursday,  May 13th at 7:00 p.m.

“In our time in Romania, we were privileged to meet so many interesting people and have some wonderful conversations,” said Sheilah Kast. “We wrote this book so that Americans would get to know the Romania we experienced, beyond the two-dimensional stereotypes so many Americans hold, limited to Dracula and dictators.”

The Cleveland Park Neighborhood Library is located at 3310 Connecticut Ave., N.W. near the Cleveland Park Metro Station.  A book signing will follow the program.  All District of Columbia Library activities are free.  For more information, please call (202) 282-3080.
