Celebrate the Big Read

On Monday, April 19 the Black Voices Book Club of the Shepherd Park Library discussed A Lesson Before Dying by Ernest Gaines.  The book generated unprecedented enthusiasm from the members.  One of the topics that made the discussion so engaging was that some of members were able to relate the author's description of the fictitious 1940's Louisiana town, Bayonne, to what they know about present day small southern towns.

You are invited to join our next monthly meeting on Monday, May 17, at 7 p.m., when we will be discussing The Known World by Edward P. Jones

The Shepherd Park Library will also continue its celebration of the Big Read with a film screening of A Lesson Before Dying starring Don Cheadle and a discussion to follow on Tuesday, May 11, at noon.
