Beginning Computer Classes Big Hit at Francis Gregory!

Each Tuesday and Thursday at 11 a.m., several patrons queue up at Francis Gregory Library to learn more about basic PC and online skills. These engaging, accessible classes have become a popular fixture at the library.

Though not limited to seniors, the classes are popular with an older crowd who did not grow up with computers or even use them at all during their professional lives. Library associate and instructor Mike Carter guides students through the basics of computer hardware (“I make them point to where the monitor and keyboard are,” he says) and later into the essentials of Windows file management. “Most students now have a flash drive and can download and save documents from Websites, such as tax forms,” he adds.

Carter hopes to offer more classes at Francis Gregory this fall. He also hopes to have a teen-oriented computer class.

Beginning computer classes are available at Francis Gregory Library at 11 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday.
