Speak Easy Salon

The Mystery of Memory

On June 23 at 3:30pm, the Speak Easy Salon will meet to discuss a true story from David Grann's new book The Devil and Sherlock Holmes: Tales of Murder, Madness, and Obsession. The story "Which Way Did He Run?" describes the agony of a firefighter, sole survivor of his company, who can't remember what happened. Grann develops in this account the notion of memory as a "code to who we are, a collection not simply of dates and facts but also of emotional struggles, epiphanies, and transformations" (139).  Please join us for a stimulating afternoon of lively discussion and refreshments.
