Great Summer Programs for Children and New Programs Coming This Fall

The Children’s Room at the Takoma Park Library has been busier than ever this summer. Along with summer reading registration and special summer reading performers, we have also been keeping up with our regular programs. Programs such as Preschool Story Time, Crafternoon (see photo), and Pajama Story Time have been popular this summer, and we will continue them into the fall. We also added one new program this summer, Art in the Afternoon.
It is our hope to continue providing diverse and exciting programs into the school year. In addition to our regular programming, a lot of new program ideas are in the works. Below, you will see two that are starting this fall.
Campfire Tales Book Club: this book club is designed for children ages 9-14 and will feature scary stories told around the “campfire.” We will enjoy snacks and take turns reading scary stories to each other or telling ones that we’ve made up on our own. This bi-weekly book club will start in mid to late October.
Silver Screen Book Club: this book club is designed for children 9-14 and will feature popular books in children’s literature that have been turned into feature-length films. We will announce which book to read at the beginning of the month. You will have a few weeks to finish reading the book. At the end of the month we will have a book discussion, and then we will screen the film (complete with popcorn!). This monthly book club will start in September or October. Stay tuned for details.
