It came as no surprise to most Syosset residents that Carole Hankin is resigning as the superintendent of schools ["Hailing Hankin," News, July 4]. My two children graduated from Syosset and are in college. I always wondered what Hankin did specifically to help them get there. The teachers taught, my kids joined active clubs, and I believe they would have had the same experience at many districts on Long Island.

She and the previous board never reached out to the community, as member Josh Lafazan does with regularity via email. I'm guilty of not attending many of those board meetings, but I am grateful that someone on the board thinks he should keep the community informed.
