Wanted: A hardcase judge to lock-up Lindsay Lohan. It just might save her life.

The full-time barfly and part-time actress from Long Island is a mess. She’s been in and out of trouble and in and out of rehab more times than it’s worth counting. She notched a personal worst Thursday when, within hours, she was charged with misdemeanors on both coasts.

In New York City the charge was assault, punishable by up to a year in jail. She allegedly sucker punched a young woman psychic in a Chelsea club in the wee hours of the morning.

In California it was reckless driving, (max 90 days); obstructing and resisting a police officer, (max one year); and providing false information to a cop, (max six months). In that incident in June she allegedly crashed her Porsche into the back of a dump truck on the Pacific Coast Highway and then insisted someone else was behind the wheel.

She was on probation at the time — and will be until May 2014 — for drunk driving and stealing a $2,500 necklace. She pleaded guilty to that one in 2011. She’s been jailed in the past, but typically for only a few days or hours.

It’s time the courts dropped the hammer on this misguided missile, either for violating probation or on the new charges. She has drug and alcohol problems and doesn’t seem to get that actions have consequences.

Lohan has ruined her career. (Did you see Liz & Dick? Did anybody?) And she seems determined to ruin her life. Real jail time — months rather than days — may not save her. But it could shock her into slowing her roll. Some judge ought to dump her behind bars and find out.
