President Obama won New York. You probably knew that before the votes were counted.
But what was so striking was how big the president won in this state, and in some instances, counties like Westchester, Suffolk and Nassau. Those wins hurt Republicans lower on the ballot.
Obama garnered 62.7 percent, or 3.8 million, of the votes across the state, compared with Romney’s 36 percent, according...

Filler: Energized Barack Obama offers message of hope in acceptance speech

When President Barack Obama hit the stage in Chicago Wednesday morning to chants of “Four more years! Four more years!” you had to wonder if that even sounded appealing to him.
After four years in one of the toughest jobs on Earth and having just completed his second presidential race, you half expected to hear Obama say, “Four more years? Man. How about four weeks off, and then we’ll talk.”
Instead,...

Nate Silver, and data, won this presidential election. And really, hard as it might be for charlatans, fortune tellers and political hacks of either party to believe, data always wins.
Silver is a blogger and former professional poker player who has made a name for himself (and pretty decent cash) by devising a statistical system to analyze professional baseball, and then by devising a system...

No matter who wins the presidential election, I can tell you who the losers are in coverage of the big night: intelligence and common sense.
I’ve been watching CNN early on, and in its hunger to provide viewers with that ultra-niche information they can’t get on Fox News or MSNBC (but might well be able to garner from a Magic 8-Ball) they’ve been asking exiting voters questions they appear...

I’m calling Georgia for Mitt Romney. As well as South Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Kentucky and a whole bunch of other former Confederate states that I’ll think of in a minute. Texas. And also Oklahoma. Ooh, and all the Dakotas. North Dakota, South Dakota, East Dakota, West Dakota, I’m calling them all for Mitt.
Lest I be accused of being partisan, I’m also calling New York for...

Talk about contrasts: In Massachusetts this morning, my daughter Rachel and son-in-law Noel went to vote in the same polling place where Mitt Romney cast his ballot, at a senior center in Belmont. (They live in slightly different neighborhoods and don't get together for chats.) Not surprisingly, Romney's presence brought about the usual cordon of security.
In contrast to the hullabaloo in...

So the presidential election is upon us and you’re still undecided? Perhaps you’re put off or confused by the rhetoric and the ads, and tuned out months ago.

The website was developed earlier this year to help voters sift through the issues and find a presidential candidate who holds their views. It’s the brainchild of two friends in Los...

If only we had those manual lever machines, then Tuesday’s election night count would be easier to tally.
Those days are long gone.
Officials in Westchester, Rockland, Putnam and New York City are facing unprecedented challenges in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy, and since this is a presidential election year, those problems will only be compounded as turnout will be larger than normal.
But...
