Learn the art of gyotaku, or Japanese fish printing, at the Southeast Library on Friday, May 4 at 4 p.m. at this hands-on program on traditional Japanese printmaking. Gyo means "fish" and taku means "rubbing".
Scissors and glue abound, paper and glitter galore! Every other Thursday, the Southeast Library hosts craft time, so come display your artistic abilities with these fun and simple crafts! For the month of April we will play with the theme "April Showers..."
El Día de los Niños/Children's Day is a celebration of language and literacy for children and families of all backgrounds. The Southeast Library will mark the occasion with two special events.On April 26 at 4:30 p.m., the Maru Montero Dance Company performs Mexican and Latin American dances in the garden for children and their families.

Teen novels aren't just for teens! The Southeast Library's newest book club featuring young adult novels is for both adults and teens. For our inaugural meeting, we will be discussing Laini Taylor's, Daughter of Smoke and Bone.
Each year, millions of visitors from all over, along with residents of Washington, D.C., come to see the beautiful blossoms during the National Cherry Blossom Festival. We commemorate the gift of these beautiful trees from Japan and also explore Japanese culture. Join the Southeast Library on Tuesday, April 3 at 4 p.m. as we celebrate with candy sushi!
April is Jazz Appreciation Month! To celebrate, Friday morning story times during the entire month of April will include stories and music from some of the most influential jazz artists. Some of the featured musicians will include Louis Armstrong, Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Etta James and more.
To raise awareness about child hunger in the District, the Southeast Neighborhood Library will host a food drive from March 10 to 24. Please drop off donations of healthy, low-sodium canned goods and whole grain dry food at the Hunger Action Station. You will also be able to find additional information about child hunger issues in the city.
