Joe Girardi said he wasn't sure of the details of Michael Pineda's extended spring training start Monday, but Hal Steinbrenner reported that Pineda threw 65 pitches and is close to beginning his minor-league rehab assignment . . . This night couldn't have gone much better for the Mets.

As expected, Eduardo Nuñez, who hasn’t played since last Sunday because of tightness in his left rib cage, was placed on the disabled list, retroactive to May 6. Alberto Gonzalez, an infielder who can play short, second and third, was called up from Triple-A Scranton after being acquired Thursday from the Cubs.

The righthander, on the disabled list since April 27 with inflammation of the right triceps, was scheduled to start Game 2 of Monday’s doubleheader in Cleveland.
