Designated hitter Travis Hafner's bruised leg is fine, but manager Joe Girardi used Vernon Wells in that spot Saturday based on Wells' recently strong hitting.
Wells, who is 12-for-29 in 10 games since July 1, went 1-for-4 Saturday and hit into a double play. Hafner was used as a pinch hitter for Alberto Gonzalez in the seventh and doubled.
Jeter away with 'bug'
Derek Jeter, who strained his right quadriceps in his only 2013 appearance Thursday, stayed away from the Stadium Saturday because he had a "stomach bug," Girardi said.
First-rounder Judge signs
The Yankees announced the signing of Aaron Judge, a 6-7 Fresno State outfielder who was one of their three first-round selections. They also signed lefthanded pitcher Nestor Cortes (36th round), and have agreed to terms with 31 picks -- all of their first 16 choices.
Cano raking at home
Robinson Cano's first-inning RBI single extended his hitting streak to a season-high eight games. Cano is batting .400 (10-for-25) on the current homestand . . . Utility man Jayson Nix, one of six Yankees who has played shortstop this season, will continue rehabilitation of a hamstring strain in Tampa this week. Nix has been on the disabled list since July 2.
