Add one more piece of hardware to Steve Borbet’s illustrious resume.

Borbet was named the Mike Byrnes Coach of the Year by the National Scholastic Sports Foundation. Borbet was the 10th recipient of the award, which was given out on the final day of the New Balance Outdoor Nationals last Sunday at Greensboro, North Carolina.

Uniondale sprints to 4x100 national title

The last few weeks for Uniondale's 4x100 have been about one-upping themselves.

They won the state Division I championship at the state meet last Friday. Not content with that, they followed that up the very next day by taking the Federation crown and setting a Nassau record.

The Garden City girls are at it again.

The team of Taylor Hennig, Emma Gallagher, Laura Jaeger, and Alexis Yeboah-Kodie set a Long Island record in the sprint medley relay at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals at Greensboro, N.C.

The foursome, who also won the Federation championship in the 4x400 last Saturday, took second place in 3:56.55. Cosby (Va.) won in 3:55.17.

Female player wins first match at boys states

Quinn Gleason of Honeoye Falls-Lima High School (Section V, Genesee Valley) won her first-round match at the NYS Boys Tennis Championships at the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center Thursday, to advance to the second round of the winner’s bracket.
