50th Anniversary Balloons

Countdown to the 50th Anniversary Celebration at Palisades Library on November 15!

The Palisades Library will celebrate 50 years at the V St NW location from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Library Director Richard Reyes-Gavilan will lead a keynote address beginning at 1:30 p.m. A special day of events is planned including technology workshops, local bands, and a puppet show!  See a 3-D printer in action and meet local community groups!  The day's events have been generously supported by the Friends of Palisades Library.

Mini Makers' Crafternoon

Makers come in all shapes, sizes and ages. Too young for Petworth's Google Maker Camp? Come to our Mini Makers' Crafternoon sessions! Children ages 3 to 6 will explore one of our S.T.E.A.M. themes "Fantasy," Farmstead," "Flight" and "Future" using a story and/or a video as inspiration for their special creations. All materials will be supplied, but feel free to contribute your own small toys and odds-and-ends from around the house. Dress for possible mess!

Mini Maker

From July 6 - Aug. 14, 2015, Parklands-Turner will be doing fun and exciting experiments and projects, from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Children and Teens ages 8 to 16 are invited to come and join us as we create, experiment, and design.

Harry Potter Spider-Man vs. The Evil Zombie Ninjas

A creative writing workshop by 826DC on superheroes and villains. Students learn the basics of writing conflict in a supernatural showdown between heroic good guys and villainous bad guys. For ages 8-12 1-3 pm

Make your Own Superhero Cape and Signal

Deck yourself out in superhero gear! Every superhero must be prepared so we will help you make a superhero cape and a superhero signal, just like Batman. This event is part of our Summer Reading program and is recommended for ages 3-6.

End of Summer Reading Party

Join us for the End Summer Reading Party.  We will have games, crafts, ice cream, snacks and water balloons.  And if you are in the League of Extraordinary Readers and you have read more than either Ms. Liz, Ms. Stacy, Mrs. Jess or Ms. Ruth, it is finally time for you to pelt us with water balloons!
Miniature Fairy Garden

In the Zone: Create a Miniature Fairy Garden

Come create your own magical, miniature garden world. Paint some mini toadstools and lay some pebbles or sand for a stream. We'll supply the container, soil and decorations. You bring your imagination. Ages 6-12.

Dream Catchers

Learn the lore behind this traditional Native American craft while making your own dream catcher that reflects your unique style and sensibilities. Classes will be held Aug. 5, Aug. 12, Aug. 19 and Aug. 26. We recommend attending 2-3 sessions to complete your dream catcher.
